Getting up here involves grades, and grades ask more of two systems.

Cooling. Climbing under load in high ambient temperature is the worst case. A cooling system that is slightly degraded performs fine on the flat and shows itself on a climb.

Brakes. Descending is where brakes get hot. Engine braking in a lower gear, rather than holding the pedal down for the whole descent, is what keeps them alive.

Winter adds the other half. Kingman sits above 3,000 feet and the surrounding higher ground gets genuinely cold mornings. A battery that spent the summer being cooked will fail on one of them, which is why testing at three years rather than five matters here.
